The Workshop

At BEAM by London we produce all of our plastic frames using a high grade eco-friendly cellulose acetate derived from renewable resources of wood pulp and natural cotton fibres. Colour combinations and effects are created by mixing organic colours with acetone and a raw plant -based material and then rolled into thin sheets and left to dry for several weeks to cure. Acetate is hypoallergenic, lightweight and flexible, a great combination for eyewear.

Materials & Design

Each frame front and its temples are cut from a single sheet of acetate following our creative ideas and designs in the workshop. We have tried and tested thousands of different shapes, colours and features before finalising each piece to perfection.

Fixtures & Fittings

Stainless steel hinges and core wires are pressed into the acetate temples by hand to allow ease of bespoke adjustments for a perfect frame fit.

Bamboo Chips and Polish

The frame components are then tumbled and buffed with varying sized wood chips for several hours to create a perfectly polished finish. Finally the finishing touches are assembled by hand including small rivets, screws and nosepads.
